The Huntsville High School Senior Hoyas Girl’s

Basketball team had an outstanding season in 1999/2000.  In their opening tournament they had a strong showing but lost a close game, 41-37, to Our Lady of Lourdes from Guelph who were one of the strongest teams in the province that year.

The team then went on a fifteen-game winning streak which brought them up against St Mary’s from Hamilton, the team which ended up as the number 1 AAA team in the province that year losing 74-57.

The Hoyas then went on another streak until they met Our Lady of Lourdes a second time losing 67-63.

Their next defeat was in tournament play where they lost to Lakeshore Catholic High School from Port Colborne 53-49.

These tough losses prepared the Hoyas for their own league championship where they defeated Bracebridge to win the Muskoka/Parry Sound Championship.

They then went on to defeat Barrie North 69-55 in the GBSSA final.

Their GBSSA win made them eligible for a trip to AA OFSAA in Stratford where 4 preliminary games led them to the gold medal game against Tillsonburg Glendale whom they defeated 59-55 for the championship.

After winning the AA gold they were chosen to represent Ontario in the Reebok Invitational in Saskatoon.  In that tournament they defeated the teams from Manitoba, Alberta, Nova Scotia and Central Newfoundland. They ended up winning silver when they lost to Heritage Park from British Columbia in the gold medal game.  They ended their season with a record of forty wins and five loses.
