FAQs

The Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame does not have its own physical location. Our traditional membership board and an interactive touch screen kiosk are part of the general sports display area managed by the Town of Huntsville. The displays are located in the viewing area of the Don Lough Arena in the Canada Summit Centre, 20 Park Drive, Huntsville, ON P1H 1P5

The Hall of Fame is run by volunteers, as such the events are scheduled when there are sufficient volunteer resources available. Some gap years have occurred for a variety of reasons.

Submit the information to the committee using the form on the Nominations page. Provide as much information as possible about the significant contribution that has been made to sports in the community

You may submit the individual’s name using our general email form. Include a brief outline of the individual’s accomplishments and why he or she should receive the award. Review the awards criteria on this FAQ page if you have any questions.

All nominations are accepted by the Sports Hall of Fame committee and added to the existing list of potential candidates. Being nominated does not automatically result in a person or team being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. Nominees are assessed against the key criteria and those deemed most suitable may be inducted at the committee’s sole discretion. See the requirements FAQ on this page for qualifying criteria.

Individuals must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for membership in the Hall of Fame. Nominations will be accepted by the committee who will then determine whether the nomination meets the selection criteria. To be inducted into the Hall of Fame candidates must have demonstrated an extraordinary impact on or in the community or have achieved recognized success at the provincial, national or international level or as a professional athlete, coach, manager or builder.

Teams must have demonstrated an extraordinary impact in their sport or have achieved recognized success at the provincial, national or international level. Recognized success over multiple years or a record breaking season is generally required for a team to be inducted.

Effective 2023 any individual or team may only be inducted as a member into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in one category. An individual or team already inducted as a member may receive a second nomination in a different category, however such nominations will be deferred in favour of any individual or team nominated for the first time. Should an individual or team receive nominations in multiple categories prior to being inducted, then he/she/they may be inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame for the category deemed to have the greatest impact on the sport or community. Such determination will be made at the sole discretion of the committee and any such decision is final. Should an individual or team disagree with the award category then the award may be declined prior to the awards being publicly announced. Their nomination will be returned to the pool of all nominations for future consideration.

The Jan Glenn Memorial Award was named after Jan Glenn who worked in the office of the Huntsville community centre and arena for many years, working alongside the various parks and recreation directors over the years. She very quickly became the face of the arena and was adored by the sporting community. Upon her untimely death, the Jan Glenn Award was awarded annually to the Huntsville parks and recreation committee’s volunteer of the year. It was awarded annually since the late 1970s at the Town of Huntsville’s recognition night. Because the town had done away with the recognition night for a few years, the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame committee approached the town to see if they might take it over and resurrect the award to its previous glory by presenting it to the Huntsville sportspersons of the year, male and female. The town agreed provided it remain the property of the Town of Huntsville sports and recreation committee. The award has been presented by the Sports Hall of Fame since 2013.

The Jan Glenn Award is now presented to the Female Sports Personality of the Year in the community. At its inception the award did not differentiate between male or female athletes, it was presented to the Sports Personality of the Year. Following the introduction of the Mike Greaves Award the Hall of Fame redefined the Jan Glenn Award to be presented to female personalities only.

The President’s Award is presented at the sole discretion of the President to any individual or group whom the President deems worthy of recognition.

Over the years Ted Logan was renowned for filling a grocery basket full of food and snacks and selling tickets at game days. The proceeds would go to whichever team or person he was helping at the time. We continue the tradition in his name as a fundraiser during our induction ceremonies.
