Carl Nelson was on of four founders (George Hoo, Clyde Johnson and Craig Teakle) of the Huntsville Hurricanes basketball organization. Founded in 1993, 20 years later Carl Nelson continues to act as treasurer for the Hurricanes. As a coach, Carl Nelson has taken Huntsville basketball players to all parts of Canada, participating in tournaments and exhibition games frim Vancouver to Nova Scotia. As well, Nelson coached teams have travelled south of the border to Michigan, Vermont, (Huntsville defeated the defending state champions) and the heart of basketball, the state of Kentucky. Over the years Carl Nelson has concentrated on player skill development, including working at an Indiana shooting camp 12 times, along with summer camps in Timmins and Kitchener. On a local basis Carl Nelson continues to organize and co-ordinate the annual Hurricanes summer basketball camp for girls from grade 8-12. While still active with the Huntsville Hurricanes as treasurer and coach of the of the major midget girls’ team, coach Nelson’s participation with the Hoyas was reduced with his retirement
