Garth Thomas

Garth arrived in Huntsville in the summer of 1958, taking a job with a new radio station CKAR . Garth became the voice of radio in Huntsville for the next fifty years. He was manager, sports director and probably most importantly, a direct associate of Santa Claus over a 30 year time frame. The unique voice of Garth Thomas became the most familiar voice in this community, as he made sure that every young child in the community who had a successful moment on the sports fields heard their name on the radio.
Garth carried the same care and compassion for our young athletes to the Huntsville Forester where he became sports editor and later overall editor of the community newspaper.
Garth was one of 25 Huntsville citizens honoured with the arrival of the Winter Olympic Games torch, at a ceremony hosted by the Town.
In addition to Garth being inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame the Town of Huntsville named the sound booth in the Jack Bionda arena, “the Garth Thomas Booth”. This was in recognition of his many hockey and lacrosse broadcasts.
