Charlie Murr

Charlie Murr was inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 in the Builder’s category. Charlie along with Dean Murdy and Bill Colvin were the driving forces in establishing the Huntsville Oldtimers Hockey Club in 1974. In 1976 the team traveled to Amsterdam in the Netherlands to compete in the 1st ever World Oldtimers Hockey Championships and won the ā€œDā€ division World Championship. That 1976 team was inducted into the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Charlie was the coach and manager of the team from its inception until the early 90s. He was inducted into the Canadian Oldtimers Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. The 1974-89 edition of the team went on to be a dominant force in Ontario oldtimer hockey almost always playing in the ā€œAā€ division championship match and frequently winning it. The team was held in great respect among the other teams. While the personnel of the team have changed over the years the team has operated continuously for 46 years (as of 2021). Starting in 1975 the team held an annual hockey tournament in December and that has continued to this day. Profits from the tournament are invested back into the community in the form of grants to charities and other such organizations. Charlie died in 2002 but the impact of his work carries on through the Huntsville Oldtimers.
