Gord Middleton

Gord Middleton was born and raised in Huntsville. Gord was an all-round athlete competing in several sports over his school aged days. He excelled at most of them.
In 1936 at the young age of 11 he competed at the Ontario Junior Speed Skating Championships and placed 2nd in his age category.
In 1939 he participated at the Junior Ontario Skiing Championships and finished 1st in Downhill, Slalom, and Cross Country.
These events prepared him for high school, and Track & Field competitions. He medalled in numerous events like the 100 and 200 yard dash, shot put and long jump. He held the 100 yard record of 10.1 seconds with SAC as a Senior in 1945.
Gord was an All Star member of the 1945 Little Big Champions Football team. He went onto play Full back in the Senior OFL in 1948-49 with the Peterborough Orphans, (who led his playing rights)
He also was involved in Intermediate hockey from 1948-1959, as a player and then a sponsor.
Baseball was also a sport of choice for Gord. He played Senior Ball for Huntsville from 1947-1967. He was an excellent pitcher.
Not only was Gord a gifted athlete he was also an avid marksman, shooting small bore class with the D.C.R.A. and Dominion Marskman 1st class with the R.C.A.C
In his later years, he represented Huntsville as a skip with the Huntsville Curling Club. He played in several Ontario Playdowns and has his name of most trophies in the Huntsville Curling Club trophy case.
For all his accomplishments as an athlete, Gord Middleton was recognized by the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 2001 primarily for his achievements in Football and Curling.
