The Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 232, has long been a vital source of support for the athletic community. Whether it be as a sponsor, provision of facilities or the donation of volunteer help. Over the years the “Legion” has helped literally any and all athletic associations in the community. An example of their commitment to the community’s athletic success, our Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 232 has been very instrumental in the formation of a track and field programme for the area, where before there was none.
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary has long been a visible force in the athletic community. For many years the “Legion Ladies” have provided sponsorship for various minor athletic teams. And let us not forget the many memorable banquets that this fine group of women catered to the town’s teams. Who can forget a Mrs. Si Payne, or a Mattie Stoke, or Mrs. Higgs behind the counter at the arena snack bar. Whether it be a hockey game or during public skating, or perhaps a lacrosse game, these fine women and many more have worked many hours to raise the funds necessary to provide the financial support necessary to keep our teams competitive.
