In 2012 Roy MacGregor was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame’s media wing. IN 2005 he was named an officer in the Order of Canada. Roy began his sporting career in the Huntsville Memorial Community Centre playing for the Ontario champion Peewee “A” Huntsville Green Gaels. In the wintertime he was a “leatherman” or a “lumberman” depending on who was the community sponsor of his house league hockey team. Roy MacGregor has managed to translate his grassroots experiences into a national discussion on sporting life in Canada and its impact. The author of more than 40 books including The Home Game co-authored with Ken Dryden, The Home Team : Fathers, Son and Hockey, and his classic The Last Season, MacGregor, through his many national columns, articles and books, has captured the love affair of hockey and a nation of Canadians. Roy MacGregor is known throughout the world for his 25 volume Screech Owls hockey mystery series based loosely on his Huntsville life.
