Stan Rimmington loved baseball from a very early age, earning the nickname “Ziggy” when he was in Grade 7. At age 15 Stan started playing fastball with the men. He played for the Huntsville Merchants fastball team in the early ‘60s. His baseball skill were renowned in district, he was picked up by two teams in Bracebridge to play in the OASA play downs. In addition to this he coached the Squirts All Star Fastball team for three years. Rimmington later went on to become president of the Huntsville men’s fastball league, as well as starting the Huntsville men’s fastball tournament that has run for over 30 years. He not only excelled at the game he was a tireless worker behind the scenes. Rimmington played an integral part in getting the light standards for diamonds A and B and helped with fundraising for minor ball to buy new equipment after all was lost in a flood. In 2014 Rimmington was awarded a lifetime achievement award by his peers for his 30 year of dedication to the Huntsville men’s fastball league.
